Did Death Battle get it right or wrong?: Gaara vs Toph

*Thumbnail made by Granbull*

This is the second of a series where I talk about somewhat controversial episodes of Death Battle, too see if the outcome is right or not. This time it's Gaara vs Toph, last time was Batman vs Cap Make sure to check it out here. This is THE episode people use when talking about wrong outcomes in Death Battle, tons of people think Gaara stomps Toph, but let's see if that's true or not.

                          Summary

Toph Beifong is an earthbending master, one of the most powerful of her time, and the discoverer of metalbending. Blind since birth, Toph was constantly treated condescendingly because of her disability, particularly by her overprotective parents, Lao and Poppy Beifong. Upon discovering badgermoles, earthbending animals who were also blind, she learned how to use earthbending as an extension of her senses. This gave her the ability to "see" every vibration that passes through the ground. She became Avatar Aang's earthbending teacher.

After the Hundred Year War came to an end, Toph passed her metalbending skills to her daughters and the next generation and became captain of the police in the newly built Republic City before resigning and traveling the world for a long time. When Avatar Korra found her, the old woman that Toph became played a role in helping Korra recover from her trauma.

Gaara (我愛羅, Gaara) is a shinobi of Sunagakure. He was made the jinchūriki of the One-Tailed Shukaku before he was born, causing the villagers of Suna to fear him as a monster. With nobody to connect to, Gaara grew up hating the world and looking out only for himself, giving his life meaning by killing anyone he came across. After being defeated by Naruto Uzumaki — a jinchūriki like himself who found strength in his friendships — Gaara starts emulating him. He becomes Suna's Fifth Kazekage (五代目風影, Godaime Kazekage, literally meaning: Fifth Wind Shadow) so that he can protect the village and all those who live there, dispelling the fears he cast on the villagers.

                 Abilities Toph:
Earthbending, one of the four elemental bending arts, is the geokinetic ability to manipulate earth and rock in all their various forms, prevalent in the Earth Kingdom and the United Republic.

Earth is the element of substance, while the people of the Earth Kingdom are diverse, strong, and enduring.

Following the lion turtles' decision to relinquish their role as protectors of mankind, Oma and Shu were the first earthbenders to learn this art from the badgermoles.

The key to earthbending is utilizing neutral jing, which involves waiting and listening for the right moment to strike and, when that moment comes, acting decisively. In other words, earthbenders generally endure their enemies' attacks until the right opportunity to counterattack reveals itself.

                     Seismic Sense

Terrain that impaired Toph's ability to sense vibrations also hindered her abilities.

                        Sandbending

Because sand is loose and ultimately always changing with the winds of the desert, Toph found it hard to navigate through and control. To compensate somewhat, she could condense the sand together to give her a better footing. However, when she tried to attack one of the sandbenders with a small wave of sand during their ambush of her and Appa, she missed, her lack of precision on the sand aggravated by her hurry to save both Appa and the others.

After the events in the Si Wong Desert had shown her inability to see effectively while walking on sand, Toph practiced her sandbending, eventually achieving a mastery over it that allowed her to create an extremely detailed sand version of Ba Sing Se during her time relaxing at Ember Island.
                              Metalbending

Toph discovered the ability to bend metal in the spring of 100 AG. Metal is derived from ore, which is found in the earth. Guru Pathik explained to Aang that "metal is just a part of earth that has been purified and refined". Because of Toph's ability to feel the vibrations in earth, she was able to locate the impurities (the small fragments of earth) still found in most metals and manipulate them to "bend" the metal portion.

        Abilities Gaara:
Chakra is the physical and spiritual energy located on every cell of the body and gained through exercise and experience. It's basically a cross between chi and stamina as the two are directly linked. Though other methods exist, Hand Seals are the main way to channel Chakra through 361 different points over the body so it can be manipulated to perform a variety of acts like walking on water, ceilings or sheer cliffs, creating elemental attacks, creating illusions, etc.

While anything capable of using chakra can use non-elemental chakra, they also have an affinity to a certain element that lets them give elemental properties to their techniques boosting their power and efficiency.

Sand shield.
The Shield of Sand can protect Gaara against a great variety of threats.

Sand binding coffin:
Using the sand he keeps stored in his Sand Gourd, Gaara immobilises his targets and captures them. Because the sand is naturally malleable, most of the target's usual methods for defence or escape become ineffective once they've been encased by it. They can only wait until Gaara releases or kills them. When killing his targets, Gaara tends to either let them suffocate or use Sand Waterfall Funeral.

Sand burial:

The Sand Burial is a sand jutsu unique to Gaara. Together with the Sand Coffin jutsu, this technique is one of Gaara's signature ones, used with it to employ his "catch and crush" tactic. This jutsu works by Gaara imploding the sand hes already used to trap his opponent with the Sand Coffin and crushing them to death at varying intensities of pressure. He can use this so powerfully the victim dies instantly without even feeling any pain. It has a larger variant called the Giant Sand Burial.

The Gaint sand burial
The Giant Sand Burial is a sand jutsu unique to Gaara. Its used as a follow up to the Sand Tsunami and works by Gaara slamming his hands onto the sand after using the tsunami and sending his chakra rushing through it as massive shockwaves which crush any enemies hes caught to death. This technique is quite deadly, almost impossible to survive. Its basically a variant of the Sand Burial jutsu.

Strength Toph:
•Is stated to be one of the strongest Earth Benders

•Comparble to Iroh if not superior, Iroh's feat against The Ba Sing Se Wall Is 799-2400 tons of TNT.

• Is shown to match Bumi. Bumi can do this.

                           Speed
•comparble to Zuko, Who dodged Lighting. In fact he did it twice.

• Blocks explosions point blank.

          Durability

•Comparable to Zuko, who blocked and survived this blast.

•Durability=Attack potency because newtons third law.

Strength
• Covered and saved the entire Sunagakure village from multiple meteors that were falling toward the village with his sand, and wasn't tired after that. (375-450 Megatons of TNT)

(Which are 534 Gigatons of TNT)

                            Speed
• Comparable to base Naruto, who can dodge photon beams while sick.

• Comparable to Naruto, who dodged Madara's Light fang.

•Regular ninjas in Naruto are faster then eyesight.

                     Durability
•Durability=attack potency because of newtons third law.

                      THE VERDICT
Now the part where I say who wins, now this may not be a surprise to you, but Gaara destory's Toph.

While Toph could bend Gaara's sand, she hasn't shown sandbending on the scope of Gaara before. His sand is powerful enough to stop Madara's meteors, which like I said in Gaara's strength section is 534 Gigatons of TNT, that's way above anything Toph could do. Gaara's power over sand is just simply better then Toph. He was also way faster as well, scaling to light timing feats from Naruto while Toph only scaled to Lighting timers like Zuko. Let's compare the difference between the speed of Lighting compared to Light.

Lighting: 224,000 mph

Speed of light: 670,616,629 mph

So yeah, big difference in speed.

The winner is Gaara.

So that makes one right, and one wrong so far.
